Do you have cemetery records that are scattered, incomplete, or lost entirely? Texas Cemetery Restoration offers the service to create comprehensive accurate, GPS-referenced digital maps and databases that preserve the location and identity of every visible marked burial — for generations to come.
We work with cemetery associations, municipalities, churches, and historical societies to document existing burials, and deliver a professional map and database that can be maintained and expanded as the cemetery grows and future generations take on the responsibility of maintaining the cemetery records.
What is included with our Cemetery Mapping projects:
1: Cemetery Mapping
Using survey grade GPS we will document and record the location of everything in the cemetery that does not move and is visible - roads, curbing, trees, structures, fencing to give the map context.
2: Monument mapping
Using survey grade GPS we will record the location of each visible monument in the cemetery. While recording the location of each monument we will digitize all the legible information on the monument and attached it to the GPS location.
3: Preliminary Map
Compile all the field data from the previous steps in the computer and generate a map of the cemetery showing all the marked burials and inserting new open burial plots in the available areas of the cemetery. Once complete have a meeting with the client to discuss any changes they would like made and decide on a labeling system for the burials. Typically Section, Row, Grave.
4: Row Markers
Once the labeling system is decided with the client Texas Cemetery Restoration decide the best location for installing flat stainless steel disc in the cemetery based on the approved map. These disc will be used as control points for marking burials to ensure that future burials are in the correct location and match the maps.
5: Deliverable Map and Database
When the project is complete we will turnover 2 physical copies (3 ring binders) of the database and maps. A USB storage drive will also be included that will contain pdf files of the maps, an excel database of all the burials, along with all the photos of the monuments.
